You've probably heard the stat, around 90% of the body's serotonin is made in the gut, not the brain (1, 2). It's a genuinely fascinating fact, and it's fuelled a whole wellness narrative that "healing your gut" is a shortcut to a better mood. How the gut and brain actually talk to each other
Your digestive system isn't just a food processing tube. It's constantly reporting back to the brain on nutrient availability, inflammation, gut wall integrity, motility, and the chemical signals produced by your resident microbes (1).
